You Give Good Love is the lead single from the debut album of Whitney Houston. The single was released on February 22, 1985.

When songwriter Lala sent producer Kashif a copy of the song, it was originally offered to Roberta Flack, but Kashif thought the song would be a better fit for Whitney & told Arista Records that he would be interested in recording with her. The song became an unexpected crossover pop hit, peaking at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was later certified Gold by the RIAA.

The single was officially released in Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, but it failed to make the top 40 expect in Canada where it reached the top 10. "You Give Good Love" won "Favorite Soul\R&B Single" at the 13th American Music Awards and was nominated for two Grammys in 1986 for "Best R&B Song" and "Best R&B Vocal Performance." The song (along with several other songs) was cited by advice columnist Ann Landers as having suggestive titles.

Music VideoEdit

The music video for "You Give Good Love" was directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg and produced by Karen Bellone. It featured an off-duty cameraman entering a club that's being refurbished. Whitney is on the stage rehearsing for a performance. Taken aback by her impressive singing, the man begins filming Whitney as she performs.
